About The Artist
Lorie Auguste has been an artist her entire life, focusing on creating pieces meant purely for enjoyment. While she enjoys experimenting in many mediums, her true passion emerged with Free Motion Embroidery.
A significant turning point in her artwork came about 12 years ago, when she began using water soluble fabric as a foundation for her embroidery. This technique involves placing the fabric in an embroidery hoop and using the sewing machine thread to "paint" the designs. Afterward, the fabric is dissolved in water leaving only the threadwork to showcase the art.
This process highlights the importance of precision, as a single missed stitch can lead to the piece falling apart. In her designs, Lorie emphasizes negative spaces, understanding their role in creating captivating shadows when the pieces are float-mounted. The changeable shadows add depth and an interactive element to her work, eliciting intrigue and adulation from viewers.
